CHICAGO, December 21, 2015 - Former GOP mayoral candidate William J. Kelly has endorsed James Marter for U.S. Senate over Mark Kirk.

"My goal is to build a real Republican Party in Illinois. In order to do that we have to replace Rahm Republicans with real Republicans and the first one to go is Sen. Mark Kirk," says Kelly.

Kelly says he hasn't forgotten Kirk's endorsement of Mayor Rahm Emanuel earlier this year.

"When I ran for Chicago mayor, Sen. Kirk and Gov. Bruce Rauner both endorsed Rahm for re-election," Kelly says. "I believe Jim Marter has a great shot at winning this race. Never before in the history of this country has there been a senator less fit to serve in the U.S. Senate - physically, mentally or politically - than Mark Kirk."

Since the Laquan Mcdonald scandal broke, Kelly has also been calling on Rauner and other Illinois GOP leaders to support legislation that would enable voters to recall Mayor Rahm Emanuel.  More than 250,000 people have signed a petition calling for Emanuel to resign.

Yet, to date, Rauner and Kirk have refused to condemn Rahm publicly or voice any support for the recall legislation.

"We cannot have a real Republican party in Illinois until we have replaced the ultimate Rahm Republican - Gov. Bruce Rauner. The fact that the Governor is not supporting this recall effort is just one more indication he has put his personal and business relationship with Rahm above his responsibility to the Illinois GOP and Illinois voters," Kelly added.

William J. Kelly is a former 2010 GOP statewide candidate for Illinois comptroller. In 2014, he busted the caps in the Chicago mayoral race with his $100K donation to his campaign, which paved the way for a historic run-off election.
