KELLY: Rahm's red light camera program must be suspended

RAHM’S RED LIGHT CAMERA PROGRAM MUST BE SUSPENDED

Chicago, Illinois, July 17, 2014 – The campaign of William J. Kelly has released the following statement about Mayor Emanuel’s troubled red light camera program and the report that as many as 13,000 drivers have been wrongly ticketed:

“I am calling for the immediate suspension of Mayor Emanuel’s troubled red light camera until this matter is thoroughly investigated and the results released to the public. The people deserve to know who is responsible for the wrongful ticketing of as many as 13,000 drivers. Once again, the myth of Rahm’s superiority has been shattered. The red flags of mismanagement and corruption have been raised. As if the lie that these cameras are for public safety isn’t bad enough, Red Light Rahm’s double standard that these cameras don’t apply to him is enough to make Marie Antoinette look like a populist. A real city deserves a real mayor.”

The red light program is also under a federal corruption probe into allegations that the city's red light camera manager took bribes from the camera company.
